Self Improvement Means Struggle
Human, as a social-based creature which means they cannot live alone in this world and have to support each other in order to live, must have had an event in their life either unusual or important event. So, what is an event? In my opinion, an event is a process which happened due to human interaction with each other and triggers memorable experiences. Therefore, all of us must have an important event in our life especially myself. Allow me to tell you more about my life.
First important event which happened in my life is my education struggle. Based on the scientific researches on factsite.com, the average person spends 15 years in education, doing a standard eight hours per day; excluding weekends and this brings the total to 1305 days, which is 43 months compared with our average life expectancy which is estimated to be 79 years old. It means that human will spend one fifth of their lifetime from school to college. Therefore, education must have contributed something to the event which happened to human and including me.
It started when I was at elementary school, I used to be a person which has no interest in education at all because I was the only student who had the highest score even though I did not study hard. It happened because during my school, I had no rival and my friends were lazier than myself and that made me automatically became the smartest of the dumbest but it did not make me proud of myself because I did not fight for it until that day came, the day when a new student joined with my class. It was a girl and she introduced herself as Intan. At first, I did not see her either as smart or diligent student and I thought that she was an ordinary student like the others. How bad I was!
It was proven when she got an ordinary score for her exam. I was like: “Yeah, I am the one who have the highest score (of the dumbest)”. However, it did not last for long until she gradually managed to pass over my score and then she finally succeeded to be the smartest in my class. Ashamed yet challenged, this occurrence has become a turning point of my life and motivated me to learn and study every day so that nobody could offset over my smartness.
Coming after that, the second important event was non-study related but mental enhancement for my life. It was bully, activities which is done in order to make someone else live in a painful way. What will you feel when your friends throw a full-loaded trash bin above your head in the class? Will you forgive them? I was shocked and I did not know what to do at that time. I did not blame but forgive them even my mental was still shocked after the incident. That was nothing compared to the next heart-breaking bully sequences which has made a big impact for me.
Last but not least, the third important event was a confidence development. It came from Mr. Anas, my mathematic teacher, who has taught me how to think positively over myself. He motivated me to know myself, he said: “You have to turn yourself into you”.
Several years after my graduation from junior high school, I did not get what he said even I repeated the words every day until I finally realized the truth powerful meaning behind it and the words have become my favorite quote for my life after.
Turning yourself into you means you do not have to be the other in order to have smartness, capability of doing everything but you have to develop yourself with your own way so that it makes you a better person than yesterday. Now, the last question be like: “Will you be yourself?”.
Yes, I am! Being yourself means you love and respect yourself but most importantly is believe in yourself because you are all you have. Great story, however, I think you need to elaborate some details of the second event. After all, your grammar and vocabularies are pretty well.
BalasHapusSo, once in the past you ever got bullied too? Glad that you could be the better you now, and i like your teacher's quote, because sometimes we pretended to he someone else because of situation and condition.
BalasHapusOf course we will be ourself. Anyone can not change it even though they do not like it. Every one is different, right? Anyway, why did your friends bully you? Kids can be mean sometimes. Fortunately you can survive from that and become like now. Your story is good. I like to read it ^^
BalasHapusYou said mental enhancement ? That is true, if mentally we 've trained , we can adapt wherever we are right ? You can be yourself on many situation ... this is a good story Jo, you remind me about training mental .
