Biography: I Cannot Wait For Tomorrow Because I am Getting Better Everyday!

Life is the most complicated things that we cannot describe. Each of us may see life from the different point of view. However, life has almost one certainty that is our life will not be as flat as pancake. When our life is getting down, we need some life-inspirations from the others so that we can move on our life and continue our journey.

While most people are preferring to learn from the elder one, I would like to choose the younger one because “younger” does not mean that he or she is worse than us. Although I agree with some statement said that the elders have past their darkest trouble then it does not mean that the youngsters have not. I believe both younger and elder have their own unique experience and so do we. Therefore, I am not going to close my eyes to the youngsters and stop listening to them.

By this chance, I choose my younger sister as the most inspiring person in my life. I am so interested in interviewing my own sister because I am so curious about her life. Once in the past, she was not as good as today. My mother used to be proud of myself because my younger sister was not as smart as I was. However, time has turned her into a completely different person.

Rachel Sonnya Putri is her name and it means the most beautiful daughter. She is 16 years old and she is going to celebrate her sweet seventeenth soon. There are many words that can describe how she look like and those words are given by people’s first impression about my little sister.

Based on the fact, most of people will say that my sister is as beautiful as an angel. Haha. She has captivating long black hair, chubby reddish cheeks and thin eyebrows which beautify her facial expressions. Down to the memory lane, people used to think that my sister and I are twins although I am a male and she is female. A lot of people have said the same statement. However, it was long time ago. Now, we are very different until you will not believe that we are brother and sister.

First thing first. I would like to bring you back to her past so that you can learn everything about her life. She was a beautiful girl who was born on October 26, 1999. Our parents both my father and my mother were so smart. However, our smartness was not innate from them. We had to work hard and achieve it all by ourselves. Both of us had to study hard everyday. Instead of playing, we have spent our times by learning something new. Therefore, it did not take so long time until we could see the progress. I was the one who made the first progress and this made my parents believed that my future would be promising. However, it was totally different from my sister. Any progress has not been made and it gave her some stress.

She was not a smart student although she have never been absent from his daily tutorial and I do even remember that she once has cried during a whole night because she could not solved her mathematic’s homework. It was totally different from my life who could achieve some prestigious awards easily. For your information, I have always been the first rank during my elementary school and all of my teachers were expecting me to be school’s representative whenever there were some big event in my school. On the other hand, my sister study’s progress was not as smooth as mine. She had to cried over nights in order to understand the subject even the easiest one. As a brother, I gave her nothing but advice to find her learning styles which might help her to understand the material.

Day by day, she was not showing any improvement at all until there was a day when everything on her was different. At that time, we lived in Driyorejo Kota Baru and then we had to move to Kupang Krajan. Therefore, after we had moved, many progress have been made by her. Was that because of her new school?

She told me that in her new school, everything was so well-organized. Her teachers were friendly and all of the students were helpful. On the other words, the progress happened because she has already found out her place, a place where she could develop herself freely. Step by step, she did a great job. She even signed herself up on Marlupi Dance Academy and became a very magnificent ballerina. She told me that there was a secret about her turning point. Someone has made her realized the most precious things about her life.

The person was Mrs. Yuni, a mathematic teacher in her new school. Rachel told me that Mrs. Yuni have always asked the student to perform anything before the class was started. It have been considered to give the student some self-confident about their capacity and ability. At first, it gave nervous for every student in her class. However, they were getting better and better in the next meeting. In other words, they were getting less nervous and they found out their self-confidence. Rachel has also found out her self-confidence and started making a meaningful progress.

Next was more incredible, Rachel started to believe that she was able to do more. Her early self-confidence has brought her to the next level that was to be the smartest student. As time went by, Rachel was Junior High and the progress was very significant. She was choosen to be a participant of Mathematic and Science Olympiad by the school and she got rank number three at her class. Gradually, she was the top two until she became the smartest student in Senior High. Yes, she is the most diligent student right now!

She has been invited to many competitions and she had many friends who love her. I am so happy to see that my little sister has grown up like the metamorph of butterfly. The most inspiring quote that she has ever said is: “You will not making any progress if you do not follow process. Therefore, when a process come after you. Do not run away!”

Right now, she is taking social sciences as her subject and she is planning to be a successful business person just like her brother. I am looking forward to have my little sister as my business partner. The question is: Will I be able to catch her progress?

She is in Senior High right now. However, she has many talents already. While I was staring at my own problem, someone just passed me and moving forward from her darkest past. She added some statement that sometimes when our life went down, we need other to wake ourself up and give us some boost to face life.

Like a quotation said: “An effort is directly proportional to the results”. It means that efforts will never lie to you. When there is an effort, there will be the result.

Time went by so fast to the end of semester. Many things have been learned and my writing skill has showing its improve. Grammar, vocabularies, idioms. Both of them were three elements which beautify my writing journey. Without those three, my writing would be as sour as lime. What I have learned during last meeting was about how to make a good narrative story. Although, I have ever made narrative story. It seemed that the way I built a story wasn’t anywhere nearly great.

Due to my lackness of idioms and also vocabularies. I have tried to implement more uncommon vocabularies in order to develop my writing skill especially in narrative story. Minor mistakes have been made but I am quite satisfied of what I have achieved. Still, I am looking forward for feedbacks from my friend because all of them were part of the process of my writing skill development.

However, there are some aspects which I need to work on especially in conjuction such as then, next, after that, etc. It showed that I have to learn more about the type of conjuction so that my next writing will be wider than before. Well, hopefully so.

Then, I am happy to see my friends both Zakharia and Helena who have improved their writing skill a lot because the way they write are getting better and better. Last but not least, I have to prepare myself to face the final writing exam. I am quite sure that it will not be easy. I just cannot imagine what to write in my next writing exam. Hopefully, an Angel would like to come beside me and give me its inspiration so that I could pass the exam. Aww, that sounds naïve. Nah, I am going to achieve it by writing a lot and I am not going to waste what I have learned before.

Chapter 3: Departure

PS: Enjoy the music while reading the story.

“It has been few days after our first meeting then you just disappeared into thin air”

For the first time, Zavian was curious about love. He felt like Love was the only one that he needed to live in this pity world. However, he has not met Love for several days since his first meeting. He wondered if Love were real, he would be very happy. In other words, Zavian fell in love after he had met Love. Was that the power of love?

“All of my pain, suffering and misery have just disappeared after I had known Love”

The following day was Obon, one of Japan’s national event. In this event, all of Japanese people were having holiday because we were all supposed to gather with our family celebrating the event by drinking sake and having a chat. Therefore, Zavian used this chance to explore the whole area in Japan and hoped that he would find Love. This time, Zavian brought Onigiri, balls of rice with a filling in the middle, with him because no restaurant were allowed to open during the event.

Back to Zavian. He began to start his journey by visiting every city in Japan. After the whole day exploring the city, Zavian found nothing and he surrendered to continue his journey. He could not find where Love lived either any information related to her. When he was about going home, he remembered that he hadn’t visited Kyoto yet. Although the result would be the same, he convinced himself to go there for one more time.

“This tiredness will be nothing if I could find Love”

Several minutes later, Zavian arrived at Kyoto. He saw a girl standing in a beautiful dress crying over something. However, it was too gloomy for Zavian to see her clearly. Therefore, he walked nearer in order to see her and offered if he could help anything.

“Ohayo Gozaimasu!”, Zavian tried to say hi to her. When the girl turned her face, Zavian got shocked because the crying girl was Love. He could not say something but kept in silence. He did not know what to do and acted randomly.

“What are you crying at?”, asked Zavian politely.
“I am starving..”, replied Love innocently.

Suddenly, Zavian laughed loudly. He thought that Love was in a serious problem until she cried. Knowing that Love was starving, Zavian gave her onigiri, the balls of rice which he brought from home.

“Oh my God, I thought you were in a serious problem, Love. Here, I brought onigiri”, offered Zavian to Love. After that, Love ate the onigiri until she was full. During their meeting, Zavian was having a heart to heart talk with Love. It made Zavian’s feeling grew bigger and bigger than before. He felt comfortable to walk with Love.

“Love, may I ask you something?”
            “Sure”
“Have you ever fallen in love before?”, asked Zavian curiously.

Love did not answer it until several minutes have passed.
“Yes, I ever have fallen in love but I was betrayed..”, replied Love softly.

Hearing her answer, Zavian was startled. He wondered why he had the same terrible past with Love. He knew how painful it was when someone got betrayed by love. This time, Zavian knew what he has to do. However, when he was about to say something, Love ended their conversation.

            “It is time..”, said Love.
            “What time?”, asked Zavian confusedly.
“I have to go now..”, replied Love asking for permission.
“Wa.. wait.. I even do not know where your house is!”
“You do not have to know it. If you want to see me, you can come here”
            “Bu.. but..”

He haven’t finished his words but Love had gone leaving him alone. How about the next day? The next day, they were getting more intense. Everyday, Zavian and Love having a conversation in a bridge at Kyoto, they talked, laughed and loved. At one in the morning, Zavian went into Kyoto and brought some onigiri, Love’s favorite food. While they were having conversation, Zavian declared his love.

“Love.. may I ask you something”
            “Sure, ask me anything”
            “Will you marry me?”
            “I would love to..”

Zavian was about to show his happiness and Love did not let it happen.

            “But I cannot..”, added Love.
“But why? We love each other. I love you and so do you”, replied Zavian dazedly.
“Yes, I do love you but I cannot..”

That day was windy. Everyone was in their home due to the terrible weather but both of them remained standing in a bridge at Kyoto. The wind was blowing strongly but their love was stronger than the wind.

“The one who you love is Love”, explained Love.
            “Yeah and Love is you..”
“No, I am not Love, the one who you love.. I mean, I am Love but I am not “that” Love..”, said Love.
“I do not get it. What do you mean?”

Zavian was very confused about Love’s statement. He did know what was Love trying to say. The next was unpredictable.

“Love, the one who you love had died long time ago”, said Love.
“Whaa.. what? What do you mean?”
“The one who is standing in front of you is the twin of Love”
            “Twin?”
“Yeah, my name is Valencia Loveably Audy and the one who you love is Vallena Loveably Audy. We are twins.”
“I just do not get it..”
“Actually, I was shocked also, Zavian. I am afraid that you cannot accept the reality”, explained Love.
“Just, explain to me. I will try to open my mind”, said Zavian convincingly.
“If I tell you the truth, the risk will come after. Will you accept it?”, asked Love.
“Yes, I will” replied Zavian with certainty.

After that, Love told Zavian about the truth. It turned out that Vallena Loveably had died at the incident when terrorists attacked Kyoto. She died at the same time when Zavian’s parent died. However, Vallena’s spirit did not want to go to heaven because she thought that her twin still needed her. It was known that Vallena’s mother had died during the process of giving birth of the twins. As a result, Vallena’s spirit felt guilty to leave her only sister in this world.

Therefore, every winter or anyday when the weather was terribly bad and people were inside their home. Vallena’s spirit came out in the bridge of Kyoto waiting for Valencia to come. Instead of meeting Valencia, Vallena’s spirit saw the crying Zavian. Vallena’s spirit was also shocked when she had realized that Zavian could see her.

And that was why Zavian could not see Vallena after the winter had done because Vallena’s spirit could not stand lights. This also explained why Vallena was being in a rush during her conversation with Zavian.

During the Obon, people were supposed to gather at their home by drinking sake and having a chat. However, it was known also as a superstition in Japan that during the Obon, our ancestor spirits were given a chance to go to the earth. Therefore, Zavian could see Vallena again at the bridge of Kyoto. Unfortunately, Obon lasted for one day only. The next day was not Vallena anymore but Valencia. When Zavian proposed Love, he was actually proposing Valencia not Vallena.

Did you remember how Vallena looked like when Zavian came after her? Yes, she was crying. She was crying because she did not want to be the dead one.

Hearing the truth, Zavian broke down in tears. He thought that he finally could find love. In fact, Love had left him behind. She had rested in peace forever. Several minutes later, light was shone over the skies. It was signed that everything has done.

“Good bye, Valencia. Tell Vallena that I will never forget her, tell her that I will always love her”, a farewell from Zavian.

In Japan’s myth, if someone could see the unseen and asked about the truth, you would be punished. It was known that the Gods would bring us back to our previous life before Japan. As a result, Gods sent Zavian to his previous life that was in Netherlands and deleted all of his memories about Japan.

 Chapter 4: Turning Back Times

“Birds are singing, flowers are dancing but my heart is breaking..”

It was a sunny day when Zavian woke up from his sleep. Suddenly, his phone got buzzed by his friend. It was an urgent message which was said that Zavian had to go to mall and it was about Kimmy. The question is: What happened to Kimmy?

He ran, he jumped out from where he sat. He went to the mall as soon as possible because he thought that Kimmy was in danger. Few minutes later, he arrived and then he met his friend. However, his friend did not say anything after he had arrived.

“Tell me what is going on!”
“You should not come here. I am not sure that you will be happy because of it.”
“Just tell me where she is!”
            “She is there.”

Zavian turned his eyes and he saw Kimmy, the girl who sat with another guy and cuddling each other in the café. He had been forced to see what he did not want to see. In fact, that was the reality. Kimmy, was not a loyal girl.

“You should not go with a blonde girl, Zavian. I get informed that most of them are not the loyal one.”
“Don’t you dare to say it again, Kimmy is different!”
“Well, just take a look at her. Your loyal Kimmy. You should not believe anyone easily, Zavian!”

All of a sudden, Zavian was getting confused. He felt like he had ever experienced this long time before.

“Wait.. I have experienced this event!”, said Zavian indistinctly.
“What do you mean, Zav?”, asked Zavian’s friend.
“I do not know. I feel like I had suffered this event before”, answered Zavian.
            “De Javu?”
            “Well, I think so..”

Their “De Javu” conversation hasn’t finished yet but Kimmy came after them.

“Hey, babe. What a coincidence! I was going to invite you to come to the mall because my brother has just finished his study in Australia”
            “Is he your brother?”
            “Yeah, he is..”

It turned out that the boy, who was cuddling with Kimmy, was her brother. It was shocking, wasn’t it? Yeah, It was because their haven’t met for ages. It was quite normal because Kimmy’s brother was leaving his home about nine years ago. Therefore, once they met, they were like a couple. However, Kimmy was saying the truth. They were really brother and sister.

As time went by, Zavian finally took Kimmy as his wife. His life remains continue leaving mystery behind everything. Till then, he never realized what was happened to him and why the time was turning back. Was that really a De Javu?

How Am I Supposed To Believe In Love? Chapter 2: My Name Is Love

CHAPTER 2 : 私の名前は愛です
— Watashinonamaeha Aidesu —
“My Name Is Love”

“Where am I?
I am standing between the two lines
Hatred and anger
They both have conquered mine..”

It took an hour until he arrived at the airport. No matter what happened. Nobody can distract him again. Was that part of his confidence? No, it was not. It was part of his anger that took over himself. At the same time, the memories of Kimmy just came across his mind. Of course, it added insult to his injury. He began to hold his breath and questioned himself whether it was a good decision or not. More he thought, more he doubted himself.

“I have to go now before someone stop me!”

He forced himself to walk faster but he stared at nothing. Then, BAM!
Someone bumped on him and his ticket was slipped and switched with someone's. It seemed that he was not the only one who was in a rush. However, he just let the chips fall where they may. He did not chase him.

“Japan, eh? The cherry blossom country.”

- THE NEXT DAY -

That day was winter when Zavian arrived in Japan. Fortunately, it was not his first time. He had gone to Japan with his parent long time before. So, he would not get lost by himself.

“Mm..hm.. I miss Kyoto already..”

Kyoto was the name of capital city in Japan. Zavian’s parent died at Kyoto when he was about 17 years old. Kyoto, the heart of Japan has become the center of Zavian’s old memory either. He remembered how happy he was when he visited Kyoto. Suddenly, Zavian was grinning from ear to ear, he did not know whether it was a happy smile or smile of sorrow.

“Egao kanashimi ka no..?”
(smile of sorrow, wasn’t it?)

Out of nowhere, a beautiful girl who was wearing a glamorous dress just appeared beside him and reading his mind. She knew what was on Zavian’s mind. Those words were succesfully made Zavian turned his face on her and they began to stare at each other like they have met before.

“This atmosphere, this warm and this comfort feeling reminds me to my parents.”

For the first time, Zavian was feeling comfortable standing beside her. He forgot what was happened to him and acted like nothing had happened in his life. Zavian was afraid that he would fall in love again. He had made promise before that he would not believe love anymore. However, this time, the power of love grew bigger than Zavian’s determination and made Zavian could not fight it back.

“What’s your name?”, Zavian asked to her with a deep-looking face.
“My name is Love”, Vallena replied to Zavian.
“Love?”, Zavian remained asking to convince himself.
“Yes. Vallena Loveably Audy”, she replied with all of her confident.

—
“Onamaehanandesuka?”
“Watashinonamaeha aidesu..”
Ai?”

“Hai. Vallena Loveably Audy-desu”
—

Hearing her name, Zavian wondered about that. He could not understand what was going on. As soon as he realized, when he just began to believe in love for once again, Love was not standing there anymore.

“Was it a girl? an Angel? or my stupid imagination?”, Zavian asked himself.

Chapter 1 : Poison

It was a rainy day when the wind was blowing through his heart before he had realized who she was. She was the last and would be the only one. When he said that he loved her, he meant it from the bottom of his heart. He was sure that it was love.

“jij bent van mij”, Zavian said.
“ik ben de jouwe”, Kimmy replied.

They walked hand in hand. They were saying that they would love each other forever. Day by day, they went together wherever the wind led them. Zavian was very confident about their relationship. Unfortunately, Kimmy did not think the same because Kimmy was not really looking for it.

Zavian was an Indonesian man who was living in Netherlands. He has dated with Kimmy, a beautiful blonde girl, which made Zavian’s life has completed. It supposed to be a happy story because their stories and memories were too many. Suddenly, his phone got buzzed by his friend. It was an urgent message which was said that Zavian had to go to mall and it was about Kimmy. The question is: What happened to Kimmy?

“Well, just take a look at her. Your loyal Kimmy. You should not believe anyone easily, Zavian!”

Then, Zavian left the mall. He lost something which was called love. Zavian has no idea what to do. Therefore, Zavian chose to go away from anyone. He wanted to go somewhere, at a place where people might not see him because he wanted to be alone.

At the strange place. Zavian broke down in tears.

“Say you'll remember me
Standing in a nice dress,
Staring at the sunset, babe
Red lips and rosy cheeks
Say you'll see me again
Even if it's just in your
Wildest dreams, ah-ha. It is your favorite song, isn’t it?”

After he had made up his mind. Zavian planed to go to his hometown, Indonesia. He has lost everything, he thought. He decided to forget his past, his memories and his beloved one. The day after, everything was ready. He has prepared things to be brought. As he left the door, he remembered everything about her. Suddenly, he said:

“I pick my poison and it is you. Nothing can kill me like you do!”

Journal Three

21.13 Yonatan Alexander 0 Comments

What is writing? Writing is a process when someone decanting their notions. I do believe that writing has become part of life because in writing, human carves histories and our ancestor did. They left us some writing in order to retrace history.

Receiving, sharing and giving. Those are three elements which I gained during my writing class. Sounds simple but it has a meaningful impact. Receiving means we are listening to what our lecturers say. Sharing means we write everything about what is going on around us and giving means we give suggestion to the others so that they could improve their writing skill, too. By doing those three, our writing skills have just improved naturally.

Best thing since sliced bread. I have been making some innovations to improve my skills. However, I felt like I was not playing with a full deck, was I? It was proven when I failed to write recount text about International Culture Festival and Celebration because I accidentally wrote it as a review text. It seems that my job as a “thing”-reviewer has affected my writing.

Speaking of which. I am in trouble lately. As my dream to be a Polyglot, I have to study five different languanges, five different grammars and five different accents that affect everything which is related to my english skill development. In fact, my score has dropped down into the deepest level and I have no idea what to do. Do I have to give up with my dreams or just let it flows?

Beyond Expectation: The Magnifico International Culture Festival and Celebration

23.07 Yonatan Alexander 2 Comments

Few days ago, Widya Mandala, a campus where I am currently studying at, held an event entitled International Culture Festival and Celebration. At that time, I was thinking about how the event would be like and I even lost my touch with reality. However, the event turned up to be different than my expectation. Before explaining my impression, are not you curious about my imagination?

Down to the memory lane, the day when I was sitting at LMM to have a writing class session, I got informed by Mrs. Ice about why there were many students who were absent at that time. She explained that most of the students were chosen to be the representative and they were not able to attend the class. Then, she reinformed us about the Culture Festival and Celebration. Cling, it was light bulb which appeared above my head and then I started to imagine the event.

At first, I thought that the event would be such a boring event because we would have to hear presentation from each representative. I had known that there were not many people who is born with an excellent presentation skill and it automatically gave me a doubt about how the event would be. How rude I was!

However, thank you to the English Department Student Association which made my imagination gone wrong! They were so well-prepared and everything was beautifully set at it places. It took me for a while to convice myself whether it was for real or not. I was like: “Oh no, is this for real?”.

Both EDSA and also Widya Mandala have put their biggest effort for the event and it appeared to be such an outstanding yet plausable event because they could arrange this magnifico (Italian, read: beautiful) event smoothly. My impression? Hats off!

As my dream to be a Polyglot, a person who is able to speak more than five languages, this event such an answer to my prayer. Although, the representative only taught us about the basic one. At least, I have learned the way how they pronounce something and also their accent. Surely, it gave me something to learn.

Surprisingly, I was more than proud of my country because our Widya Mandala’s representative has brought a very unique presentation about Nasi Pecel and everything related to Nasi Pecel. Honestly, I used to hate Nasi Pecel but since Widya Mandala has given their presentation, somehow it has changed my perspective.

Last but not least, I hope this very meaningful event will be held again for the next year and it is getting more attractive than the past event because from this event, we, as a Widya Mandala’s student (and of course as Indonesian) can learn how to appreciate our country either neighboring country’s culture.
